Program information

During a period of nine weeks, students will work full-time in a research project, will participate in weekly seminars and workshops, and will attend regular group meetings with the members of their research labs. The program concludes with the students presenting their research findings during the REU Summer Symposium.

During the summer 2021, the REU program will be virtual. All meetings, workshops, seminars and other programmed events will take place via Zoom and Microsoft Teams platforms.  

Program dates: May 24-July 23, 2021


Participants will receive a $4500 stipend. No housing or travel accommodations will be provided


  • Students must be enrolled in an accredited college or university..
  • Students must be U. S. citizens or permanent residents.
  • We strongly encourage students from underrepresented minorities groups and students with disabilities, to apply.

Application Process

Students interested in participating in the program must complete the online application which includes identifying two faculty members to provide a letter of recommendation and providing an electronic copy of the student's transcript. The application is available through the NSF REU website.

Applications open on February 15, 2021.

Application deadline: All application materials must be received by March 8, 2021.

Applicants will be notified via email of final decision by April 1, 2021.
